Reading more books with less time
Many people want to read more but feel they have no time. Usually the time is there, in small pieces. The trick is to make reading the easy default for those pieces.
Always have the next book ready
Most reading gaps happen between books. Keep a short list of what's next so finishing one book never means "I'll look for something later".
Use the small gaps
Ten minutes on the tram, in a queue, before sleep. A phone app, an e-reader or a paperback in your bag turns these gaps into pages. Ten minutes a day is roughly a book a month for many people.
Give yourself permission to quit
If a book hasn't grabbed you after 50 pages, stop. Life is short and your reading time is limited. Quitting a bad book is how you get to the good ones.
Mix formats
Audiobooks during walks or chores count. So do long articles and essays. The goal is ideas, not format.
Remember what you read
- After each chapter, write one sentence: what stood out?
- After the book, write three lines: the main idea, one thing you disagree with, one thing you'll try.
- Tell someone about it within a week.
Read with others
A tiny reading circle — two or three friends reading the same book and meeting once — doubles what you get out of it and makes finishing much more likely.
